Birthday Checklist

Hey, so yesterday was actually a birthday but not only am I one of those people who loves their birthday uncontrollably but I am also one of those people who has to plan everything, so I have decided to give you a checklist of everything you should do on your birthday:

Make sure you get a good night sleep the night before – so I don’t know about you but when it’s my birthday I tend to be really excitable and bubbly and jumping around constantly so if you’re going to be partying you need as much energy as possible so try and get a good night sleep and try to make sure that you won’t need too long of a lie in to make sure you don’t feel tired in the morning because honestly what’s worse than feeling tired when you haven’t even done anything yet.

Have a special breakfast – so it’s a tradition in my family that on your birthday you can choose a nice breakfast for everyone to have and although personally I love to have vanilla American pancakes with golden syrup, you can have whatever you want but remember it’s your birthday you don’t have to worry about counting calories or being healthy, it’s time to have a day off.

Make yourself looking as good as possible for photos – by this I mean doing your hair up, doing your makeup or if you’re like me spending twenty minutes trying to decide the perfect eyeshadow shade to blend into the crease for photos and I know you want to look perfect but a) don’t spend too long on trying to look your best and b) you don’t have to look good to have fun, appearance doesn’t matter as much as everyone thinks it does.

Pick an outfit that is both pretty and comfortable – birthdays tend to feel really long and can be exhausting but although you want a pretty outfit you also want clothes you won’t mind spending large periods of time wearing, you also don’t want to wear anything that could be restricting and definitely don’t wear shoes that give you blisters or make your feet feel particularly sore, there is nothing worse than that.

Read all your birthday cards from your friends and family – so chances are that lots of your friends have sent you birthday texts or family members have sent you birthday cards and if your families are like mine, lots of people will also be calling to say and sing you happy birthday, so listen and read them and thank them because they have probably gone through a lot of effort for you to get that card or have that Instagram post.

Blow out your birthday candles –bake or buy a cake, stick however many candles your heart desires and light it up, but don’t forget to make sure that you make a wish when blow out the candles, and don’t forget to eat some cake, give cake to others and then tomorrow you can jump on a treadmill and burn off those calories, another thing to remember is that try to cater the flavour of cake to suit everyone else because who doesn’t love cake and how bad would it be if you wouldn’t be able to eat it.

Open your birthday presents – so yes this is the part of the day that most people look forward to but try and resist the urge to rip off the wrapping paper as soon as any gift is put into your hands, but I try to leave this to near the end of the day so that I can pretend that I have some self-restraint and discipline and also because then I can unwrap everything in one go which helps me be more organised so that I can work out where I should put everything.

Thank everyone – so yes it’s your birthday, yes it’s your special day but despite what you may think, it’s not all about you, it is also about the people in your life who have spent their time, energy and money on you so just take a second to think about how much you do love them even if you do sometimes argue with them, so please remember to thank them and show your gratitude because you should always treat people the way you want to be treated.

Have fun with your friends and family – in between all of the phone calls and eating and opening gifts, remember that you have the people who mean the most to you with you so why not take advantage of that and try to have as much fun as possible and try and enjoy your day as much as possible because hopefully these memories will last forever, even if you start to feel overwhelmed or stress, just breathe and then smile.

Go to bed happy and one year older – now I know that this was truly one stressful day so you will need to go to sleep at some point and although it’s sad that your birthday is over, your older and more mature and hopefully you’ve had a great day and even if you didn’t have a great day then going to sleep and waking up can give you the chance to have a great day the next day and just remember you’ve started a new year of your life.

I hope you enjoyed this, leave a comment saying when your birthday is! Let me know of anything you would like me to talk about in another future post. That’s all for now,

Bella xxx
